The 8 Keys to Wellness: A Holistic Approach to a Happier, Healthier Life

Posted on August 23, 2023 by Derelle Ball

Wellness is a term you've probably heard often, especially in recent years. The global shift toward prioritizing holistic health means that people are increasingly recognizing the importance of their overall well-being. But what does it mean to be well, and how can you achieve it?

Wellness isn’t merely the absence of illness; it’s a holistic view of health that encompasses the body, mind and spirit. So, let's explore the eight keys to unlocking a life filled with vitality, happiness and wellness.

1. Balanced Nutrition

We are, quite literally, what we eat. Every cell in our body is created from the nutrients we consume. A balanced diet that emphasizes whole foods, minimizes processed goods, and varies in nutrient-rich fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains is crucial. It’s not about deprivation or strict diets, but about making choices that fuel our body optimally.

Feng Shui emphasizes importance on the kitchen's location and design and this is dependent on the surrounding landform, construction history and magnetic orientation of your home according to Fei Xing (Flying Stars) Feng Shui. Your personal Ming Gua (Guardian Star) is derived from 8 Mansions Feng Shui and lets you know the favourable orientations your body naturally responds to, allowing you to align your body with nurturing health energy while eating, sleeping and relaxing at home. Additionally, in astrology, certain zodiac signs might be more inclined towards specific diets or foods. For example, a Cancerian might be drawn to home-cooked comfort foods while a Virgo might lean more towards clean eating.

2. Regular Physical Activity

Our bodies are designed to move! Whether it's a brisk walk, a vigorous gym session, or a calming Yoga or Qi Gong class, physical activity has a myriad of benefits. Not only does it keep our cardiovascular system in check and muscles toned, but it also releases endorphins, the body's natural mood elevators.

The position of your home gym or workout space can be enhanced using Feng Shui to tap into supportive health qi from the surrounding landform. Astrologically, energetic signs like Aries might enjoy high-intensity workouts, whereas a Taurus might find more joy in a calming yoga session.

3. Mental Well-being

Our minds need as much care and attention as our bodies. Practices like meditation, mindfulness and using empowering self talk for personal benefit can go a long way in maintaining good mental health. Also keep in mind, the 5 people you tend to spend the most time around reflects the quality of your personal growth, so choose your friends wisely and avoid getting caught up in the mental drain of 'frenemies'.

“We are the average of the five people we spend the most time with.” (Jim Rohn)

Remember, it’s okay to seek professional help when needed. A therapist or counsellor can offer valuable insights and coping mechanisms, especially when dealing with subconscious fears and expectations.

Positioning your meditation or relaxation space in a location connected to a favourable mountain star energy that is also well supported in the external landform according to the Fei Xing (Flying Stars) Feng Shui of the building, can enhance mental clarity and peace.  You can also further support the meditative and relaxation process by tapping into your personal Tian Yi/Heavenly Doctor Qi.  Astrologically, Pisces individuals, given their intuitive nature, benefit from deep meditation practices.

4. Emotional Intelligence

Understanding, expressing and managing our emotions can lead to better relationships with ourselves and others. By being in touch with our feelings and practicing empathy, we can navigate life's ups and downs with resilience and grace.

Using Fei Xing Feng Shui to create a harmonious blend of colour and form in your living area can promote better communication and emotional understanding among family members. Water signs in astrology, like Scorpio, Cancer, and Pisces, naturally dive deep into emotions and can benefit from spaces that allow emotional reflection in a supportive environment within the sanctuary of your home.

5. Social Connections

Humans are social beings. Building and maintaining positive relationships – be it family, friends or community – is linked to longer, happier lives. Spend quality time with loved ones, engage in community activities, or simply share a smile with a stranger. Connectedness matters.

“How do we change the world?  With one random act of kindness at a time” (Morgan Freeman)

Geminis, governed by Mercury, the planet of communication, find it beneficial to host frequent social get-togethers.

The energy flow affecting your home can be revitalised and energised 3 times each year via Sun Ceremony dates that connect specifically with the metaphysical energy of the Sun and the magnetic orientation of your home.  For example, a home that faces towards Zi/N2 (352.5 – 007.5 degrees North) will experience a heightened sense of fresh, new, vibrant energy if you activate it with a traditional Sun Ceremony, space clearing or a noisy, fun, social event at your home during any of the following time frames each year: 21 January – 3 February, 22 May – 5 June and 22 September – 7 October.

6. Adequate Sleep

The power of a good night's sleep cannot be overemphasized. It's the time when our body repairs and regenerates. Aim for 7-9 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Keep electronic devices out of the bedroom, maintain a regular sleep schedule, and create a restful environment to optimize your sleep.

Aligning your bedhead based on a combination of your Ming Gua, the inherent Fei Xing Feng Shui energy flow and surrounding landform can promote restful sleep.  Fei Xing Feng Sui also allows us to decorate a bedroom in harmonious colour and forms that connect favourably with the inherent Feng Shui energy flow affecting that room.  Astrologically, Taureans, ruled by Venus, appreciate comfort and luxury, so investing in a comfortable bed in a harmoniously designed room might be crucial for them.

7. Stress Management

In today’s fast-paced world, stress is almost inevitable. But chronic stress can take a toll on both physical and mental health. Find ways to manage and release stress – be it through hobbies, deep breathing exercises, or even just taking a break.  Did you know intentional breathing techniques such as Qi Gong and Box Breathing can not only help lower stress and reduce blood pressure, they can also help with digestion.

The whole concept of Feng Shui is to assess the quality of Qi (transformative energy) in and around your home and harmonise the surrounding landform, internal space and its occupants with the inherent energy flow via the right colours, forms, orientations etc.  It’s also possible to locate beneficial areas around your home containing supportive mountain star energy that nurtures your personal Ming Gua, making these locations the perfect spot for earthing (ie connecting your bare feet to the ground) to help draw anxiety away from your body and into the earth. This can be particularly effective for Earth signs in astrology like Capricorn, Taurus, and Virgo, who seek stability and often need grounding amidst their busy lives.

8. Lifelong Learning and Purpose

A sense of purpose and continuous learning keep the mind sharp and the spirit invigorated. It can be as simple as reading a new book, listening to inspiring podcasts, picking up a hobby, traveling to a new place, or volunteering for a cause close to your heart. When we continue to grow and find meaning in our actions, we achieve a deeper sense of fulfilment.

“Knowledge is life with wings” (William Blake)

Your study or workspace can be oriented based on Fei Xing Feng Shui to tap into abundance energy, ensuring that the flow of Qi supports concentration, productivity and creativity. Astrologically, Sagittarians, with their quest for knowledge and Jupiter's influence, are more likely to find themselves drawn to expansive learning via education and long distance travel.

In essence, wellness is a delicate dance between various facets of our lives. It’s about listening to your body, understanding your mind, nourishing your soul and connecting with the world around you. By incorporating these eight keys into your life, you’re not just surviving; you’re thriving.

No one said the journey to wellness would be easy, but the destination is worth every effort. It's a holistic approach to a life filled with energy, contentment and a profound sense of well-being.

Incorporating Feng Shui and astrological insights into your wellness journey can provide an added layer of personalization and energy alignment. Both these ancient practices underscore the importance of harmony between the individual and the Universe. By using them in tandem with the Eight Wellness Keys, one can create a life that is not only balanced but also energetically resonant with the cosmos.
